Linda Hanson has a beautiful house, a loving husband and two adorable daughters. Her life is perfect, until the day she receives the devastating news that her husband Jim has died in a car accident. When she wakes up the next morning to find him alive and well, she assumes it was all a dream, but is shaken by how vivid it felt. She soon realizes it wasn't a dream, and her world is turned upside down as the surreal circumstances lead her to discover that her perfect life may not have been all that it appeared. Desperate to save her family, Linda begins a furious race against time and fate to try and preserve everything that she and Jim have built together.
Spoilers ahead: proceed at your own risk.
We are led to believe that Linda has a chance to save her husband's life because of the inspiring words of her priest: "It's never too late to realize what's important in your life; to fight for it." What had happened in the story so far was that Linda had lost her marriage. It wasn't over yet, but her husband was committed to an affair with a coworker. We assume that Linda is fighting for her husband's life, but she was fighting for her marriage. Which, by the way, she saved. Oh, if only we all could turn our marriages around for the better in a single night! But anyway, she revives her husbands love for her and their little family. Unfortunately, he dies anyway. It was not the optimal ending, but suitable. If you don't like fairy tales, then this story has a realistic enough ending to suit you. I liked it. It was a mystery and brain engaging exercise to watch Sandra Bullock as Linda try to figure out what was taking place in her life and how to deal with it. But I like fairy tales and "lived happily ever after."
